Field journals, field catalogs, and some manuscripts for unpublished papers pertaining to ornithological specimens acquired by curators and other collectors during expeditions worldwide sponsored by the Museum. Correspondence of curators primarily concerned with acquisition of specimens, exchange of scientific information, and curators' publications and research; also, catalogs of birds housed in the department. Card files maintained by James P. Chapin for his research on African birds, especially those of Zaire. Most records date from 1881 to 1980.
